Addendum (15 September 2002): Well, thanks to my mentioning the Roaring Boys in the following post, a few people have wound up here looking for the song. I've now gone and put the MP3 online.
Download The Roaring Boys -- "House of Stone" (now offline).
I've been meaning for ages to set up a blog. It's finally here.
I'm an information junkie, meaning that I read a lot (or at least I try to). I also like a lot of different music and the occasional film. So I thought I'd set something up to record what I've been reading, watching, or listening to. Something like that.
Been playing a lot of songs from the 80s lately that I've downloaded from various MP3 spots on the web. The ones which have been getting the heaviest rotation are:
- Roaring Boys 'House of Stone' - an incredibly haunting track with wonderful production - I love how it builds over the course of the song - stunning
- Prefab Sprout 'Appetite' - an excellent companion piece to 'House of Stone' - again, great production and build
- Mighty Lemon Drops 'Out of Hand' - different instrumentation, but great atmosphere and a similar wistful quality
Although I should probably lay off listening to it so damn much, because it makes me melancholy as all hell.
Went to see an exhibit of artwork by Yoko Ono last week being held at the Art Gallery of Ontario. I quite enjoyed it, especially the interactive bits. Should make an effort to get out to art galleries more often.
Also saw a movie called Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner last week. I've been spoiled by mainstream movies. I caught myself a few times thinking that they should pick up the pace. But, as my friend Donna pointed out, not every movie needs a car chase in it.
Whatever. A rather inauspicious beginning here, I know. Will have to work on that.
