Hot dawg. I used a very primitive version of this (just a fan blowing over a block of ice) way back in the 90's. Shame on me for not coming up with this idea on my own.
If you only run this device at night, and your freezer isn't packed with neglected food, you can devote your freezer space to ice production in the daytime, and have plenty of heat-sink material every night. I like the frozen water bottles as ice-holders.
Of course, nowadays a nice room air conditioner is affordable, rendering the whole problem moot from my point of view.
