Interesting that on the list of irritating words and phrases, they included the use of "around" instead of "about". I'm not sure in what context they were referring to this, but "around" is American standard usage in many places where "about" would be used on that little island over there.

"Just have a look around the house."
"I spent the day driving around aimlessly."
"He knocked on the door, but there was no one around."
"This should take around ten minutes."
