My friends Belinda and Tim recently took their cat Bam Bam to a new groomer. There apparently was a miscommunication concerning what kind of haircut the cat should have gotten.

Poor little guy never used to get cold at night. Now he has to sleep with a hot water bottle. But other than that, he apparently likes his new cut. Go figure.
Yeah, I know Pete had a post about a similar incident several months back. That cat looked decidedly less happy.

Yikes... How do the groomers keep a steady hand while mowing the fur on cranky cat?

OMG That is absolutely hilarious! Isn't funny how cats look a whole lot happier when they have fur? Poor things, I'd be miserable too!

Now he finally looks like the king he is

they put a "party hat" on grumpy cats- this covers their eyes. when a cat can't see what's coming they don't move much.
i personally like lion cuts and have done a couple in the clinic that i work at- but have yet to give my own cat a hair cut.
the only time i have seen this done though is when the cat is very very matted and the owner doesn't want to shave the entire cat.
brush your cats hair and this need never happen

they did this also to my cat bruce at the vet's. they anaesthetized him completely in order to do this; i was quite shocked by the effect as well, not to mention he was cold after they did it, and wobbly from anaesthetic. he was however much more comfortable after, and from research i've learned that there are simply no cats in the wild with hair as unmanageable as these type of cats (he couldn't groom himself properly his hair was so long)...

Well this happened to us tonight to our beautiful show quality Maine Coon cat. I was HOT.
We always brush her and she is never matted, why would they think to do this to her? I am so upset, and our daughter who is four is crying, and has been for hours for her cat back. The poor cat is in the basement, I am about to run to the 24 hr wal-mart and get her a sweater. I feel so badly for her. Does anyone know when she will grow back out?

Having seen Bam Bam again this past weekend, I can report that his fur has grown back, although he's still fluffier around the head than on the rest of him.
Belinda and Tim actually plan to give him another lion cut soon, because he seems to like it -- much easier to keep himself groomed. And he has a little blanket now, as well, for when he gets cold.

So it took nearly three months for him to look normal again? Poor thing! I think he is a Maine Coon Breed as well isn't he?
It half has be lauging and half has me crying. My cat at least does not have he tail done. I got there before she got that far. But she looks even more stupid with a tail with long hair and the rest like a lion.

I am SOOO GLAD I didn't get the cut for my foster cat who had such tangles. It just sounded so horrible, I put it off and after she became more comfortable--took several months--she took care of her mats herself. I can't imagine doing that to her and I am sure she would be cold. thanks for affirming that I never want to do that to a cat.

Shittie pics I think.....
Maine Conns are pretty pussies and they may NOT be shaved. The cat loops pretty unhappy to me.

Awww! It's sooo cute! See i think that those types of "little lion" haircuts are absoulutely adorable. I have a black shorthair named midnight- I want to do the haircut on him, but alas- he is a shorthair. O well.

I have had this done to my orange tabby. At first he wasn't very happy with me but the mats had become so bad that it was pulling on his delicate skin and was far worse than the cut. He forgave me after a couple of days!

My cat Dmitry is a long haired orange coon cat and he just lays there when I shave out his tangles. I don't shave him as bad as that. I leave him with about a half inch of hair.

A friend just had her husband's Sheltie intentionally groomed with a lion cut. Husband was out of town, and she meant well. But after a few neighbors cast stares and pretended not to notice, she took dog back to groomer to have the mane removed. She realized her husband is too devoted to his Sheltie and just to insecure personally to deal with this. He would have been mortally wounded.
Don't know what it looked like, but heard the groomers have photos as it was one of their really good jobs.
